New exhaust for the Little Red Racecar!

So, the check engine light finally comes on, and after nothing really changes regarding how it runs, I pretty much assume it's an oxygen sensor. I took it to a local Honda dealership to have the code read, and yes they say I need an oxygen sensor for only $284. Well, thanks, but not thanks. I asked if they would install the oxygen sensor if I got one. They will, but no warrenty. I don't really care, so I drive into town a couple of times (after not getting the right one the first time) and finally get the right sensor. Well, the main reason I brought the car to the dealership in the first place is because I don't have the right socket to remove the oxygen sensor, which I'm pretty sure is the original sensor from 1994. My assumption is confirmed when the mechanic tells me that the threads stripped when removing the sensor, and I will need a new manifold. Oh yeah, and the manifold is also cracked. The screw the oxygen sensor back into the manifold, and send me on my way. Three days later, the sensor falls out, and I am transported back to my high school days of a beater car with no exhaust. I'm also quick to find out that the blower fan pulls the now leaking underhood exhaust into the cabin. Fun!

So, knowing that I might be selling the car in a couple of months, I search for a cheap solution on E-Bay. I'm surprised to find I can get an aftermarket header for $10! WoHo! I buy it now, and the total comes to $51. I'm surprised to find that all the gaskets are included when UPS delivers it a couple of days later.

How's the quality on a $10 chrome header? Pretty good really! I have no idea what grade steel it's made of, but it does fit. It only took me about 2 hours to remove the old manifold and install the new header.

Flogging the Little Red Racecar, and keeping it alive!

A little history about the '94 Honda Civic EX I bought in August 2004 with 218,000 miles.
